How good is Photoshop’s removal tool getting?

The old boat docks at Bandon Harbor

Just for the fun of it, I took the original image of the old docks at Bandon Harbor with all of its piling and thought I would fine out how good Adobe’s Photoshop was getting at removing distractions.

The modified image at the top only need a little correction, primarily on the water. The only real problem as I see it, I am closely focused on the boats and buildings and using all the vertical space I can for the pilings. In the modified image, there is now too much dead or negative space, leaving it wanting something else happening in the water or for me to crop the image down to something like this.
